Is China Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

China is generally considered a safe country for solo female travelers. Cities are often busy, significantly reducing risks of getting attacked or harassed, and public transportation is reliable and widely used. Chinese people are generally friendly and helpful to foreigners. However, like anywhere else, it's important to take normal precautions, such as avoiding walking alone at night in secluded places and being aware of scams targeted at tourists.

China, Solo travel

My time is China was great the first time! It was super cheap against the USD, and I met so many people who were interested in getting to know me as a foreigner. Everyone was really curious. I would defintely go again.

China, Couple travel

Loved it here so much! I travelled with my boyfriend, we went to Chongquing, Zhāngjiājiè, Chengdu. So many attractions, stunning nature, feels very safe, and people are rather open and chill! However nobody really speaks English ahah so be prepared and have a translation app! Also food is exotic and often too spicy! Be sure to find some special western restaurants before your trip if you can’t tolerate spices! Really recommend Avatar mountains, Panda Base in Chengdu, and Chongquing as a whole -...

Chongqing City, Solo travel

I did a teach English for a year, living in the city! It’s a great place to travel too. I felt very safe for the year that I lived there. It’s closed to Chengdu and visiting the pandas. Just a train ride away.

Wuhan, Solo travel

Loved the city, it’s enormous. China is very safe, people are helpful, kind and a bit curious towards foreigners. The trip overall was amazing, Wuhan in March is just wonderful. Food is quite different for a foreigner but you can always find at least several dishes that you might like.

very safe. it's normal for people to leave their stuff in cafes, restaurants, or any place. personally i have never meet creeps but beware of foreigners, culture difference, they might stare. also, this doesn't mean you can be careless about your things.

Guangzhou

I think it's safe here. Most people are kind and hospitable. Transportation is also convenient here. For the safety, just don't go to remote place at night alone. And don't trust the seller in the tourist area.

China is absolutely safe country all over the world, you can even walk on the street at the night and people would love to help if you ask. Don’t worry too much. If you travel to Nanjing you’ll be fine and just enjoy your trip!

China

I moved to Shanghai in September, but I also managed to visit several cities. In every city, I felt safe as a woman, and I also noticed that Chinese people are non-confrontational and very friendly. So my impressions of China are quite good because of the people. Also, there are cameras everywhere.

About me

hi,my Chinese name is Mei. I’m a solo traveler from China currently exploring different countries and cultures at my own pace. I work in healthcare during my normal life, but I travel to slow down, reset, and reconnect with the world in a more human way. I’m easygoing, clean, and respectful of shared spaces. I enjoy good conversations, but I also value personal space and quiet time. I’m not the type who needs constant entertainment — I’m just as happy walking around a city alone as I am sharing stories over dinner. I’m especially into swimming, dance, tennis, and anything that involves movement and feeling present in my body. I also enjoy discovering local food, museums, and everyday street life. What I appreciate most in hosting is authenticity — no pressure, no performance, just genuine cultural exchange. I’m always happy to share my own perspective and learn yours. Looking forward to meeting kind, open-minded people along the way.

About me

Hello, my name is Nora. I come from a city near Hong Kong. I just finished my master's degree in China, so I came to Europe alone for a graduation trip. I am a very outgoing and talkative girl, and I love keep everything to be clean. My first stop is in the United Kingdom, mainly in London; the second stop is Spain, mainly in Barcelona and Madrid; and the third stop is France, mainly in Paris. I am very keen on experiencing the culture of different countries, and I also like to make friends from different countries. I will also be very happy to share my life in China with you, cook chinese food for you, we can talk about anything too. By the way, I love dogs and cats so much. Since I started my graduation trip, I have experienced many things that I have never experienced before. The people I met along the way are very friendly, so I am a very lucky girl, if you want to come to China in the future, I can be your guide, because I have been to many cities in China.I look forward to having more wonderful experiences with you😊.
