Lithuania generally has a welcoming and safe environment for solo female travelers. The country is known for its rich history and friendly locals who are often willing to help if you find yourself in a difficult situation. The public transportation system is reliable, and most people speak English, especially in big cities like Vilnius. Use common sense like you would in any other location, like not walking alone late at night in deserted areas, and be aware of your belongings at all times, especially in crowded places. However, it is important to know that petty theft can occur, though it's not a common occurrence.
Lithuania is currently ranked #89 safest country for solo female travellers. Check the full ranking.
Lithuania, like many European nations, is generally safe even at night. It's advisable to stay in well-lit areas where there are people around, especially in larger cities like Vilnius. Always stay vigilant of your surroundings. Petty crimes like pickpocketing can happen, especially in crowded places. But violent crimes are rare. Public transportation and taxis are safe to use. It's best to book a reputable taxi service when going back to your accommodation at night. Local people are friendly and most speak English, so don't hesitate to ask for help if necessary.
Public transportation:Safe
Public transportation in Lithuania is generally reliable and safe. Buses and trains are well-maintained and provide service to both urban and rural areas. Violent crime is rare, however, pickpocketing or theft can occasionally occur, particularly in larger cities or on crowded buses and trains. It's advisable to keep an eye on your belongings at all times. When using a taxi, it's safer to use a reputable company or app-based services to avoid overcharges.
Street harassment:Low
Lithuania is a relatively safe European country for solo female travelers. Street harassment is not a widespread issue, however, like any other place, occasional incidents do happen. Always stay alert and respect local cultural norms, but in general, you should feel safe and comfortable while exploring the diverse landscapes and cities of Lithuania.
Petty crimes:Low
Lithuania, like any other place, has some risk of petty crimes such as pickpocketing, purse snatching, and minor thefts, particularly in crowded places, tourist areas, or on public transportation. However, the overall level of petty crime is relatively low, and it is further reduced if basic safety measures are taken. The local law enforcement is also efficient and approachable in managing such cases if they occur.
Tap water:Very safe
Tap water in Lithuania is generally safe to drink. The water is treated and filtrated thoroughly to meet European Union standards. Nonetheless, for those with sensitive stomachs, it might be better to drink bottled water just to be extra cautious. Alternatively, use a water filter or purifier if you still have concerns.

I have been to Lithuania several times. Their capital, Vilnius, is incredibly charming and beautiful, full of historical and cultural attractions to see. The city of Trakai, about 30 minutes away from Vilnius, is stunning and very lively in the summer, and it is also home to the famous and beautifully restored old castle. Kaunas is a smaller city, but I definitely recommend visiting it too. The infrastructure between the main cities is great, and their tram/bus network reaches most parts of the country in a reasonable time. Generally speaking, the country has a very unique atmosphere, very friendly people, and has a lot to offer.

Stay with locals in Lithuania
Stay with local women in Lithuania who offer free accommodation as part of cultural exchange. Couch surfing is a great way to meet new people, learn more about new cultures and experience destinations like a local.

About me
I am Italian and I live in Vilnius, Lithuania. It is my home and one of the greenest capitals in Europe.
I like travelling and seeing new countries through the eyes of locals. I love karaoke!
I am fluent in English and Italian. My dream would be to speak Arabic but at the moment I just limit myself to listening to any Arab music! :D
