Is Worcester Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Worcester, in the United States, generally has a moderate level of safety for solo female travelers. Though it is a city with all the conveniences and amenities one would expect, like most urban areas, it has its share of crime. However, the city center and tourist-oriented areas are typically well-patrolled and safe. It's always advised to maintain standard precautions such as avoiding deserted areas at night, not flashing valuable items in public, and staying aware of your surroundings at all times.

I’ve lived in Worcester about 3 years now. I’ve felt uncomfortable at times but never put in harms way. The area surrounding Cambridge Street isn’t the best, I used to live there and it was pretty sketchy. The downtown area has its share of unhoused individuals who may ask you for money or men who will catcall but Ive never had any physical altercations with anyone. Theft is common, so just keep an eye on your things and you’ll be fine.

Worcester is fine during the day, and is fine in certain parts of the city. At night, especially on Park Ave or Main St in Main South, it is not advisable to walk alone (there are often people on drugs wandering around.)

There are certain areas to be careful especially at night but for the most part, I feel safe in my own city. It’s also one of the biggest cities in New England so you are going to have some bad areas as well as the good. Just be aware of your surroundings.

About me

I’m just a girl who wants to travel and experience life. So far I’ve only traveled within the USA, CA, and the UK visiting friends - but I’d like to branch out and visit as many countries as possible, and stay safe while doing so 🧡
