Is Springfield safe for solo female travelers?

It’s fairy safe. I would walk around at night alone though. And stay out of downtown by myself. There’s lots of homeless people.

Springfield, IL is generally safe as long as you stay away from areas with known gang activity. The police are not much better as they have several bad officers on the force. One officer killed Sonya Massey in her home, an unarmed black woman, while she was complying with instructions. Downtown has several unhoused people, though nothing on the scale of larger cities, and they usually leave you alone.

Springfield, MO is fairly safe in my opinion. I’ve walked around downtown many evenings and nights but always try to be aware of my surroundings. If walking alone I do carry pepper spray. There are areas in town that I avoid but not a lot where it would come to sought out tourist locations.
