Is Savannah Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Savannah has a lower safety score compared to other U.S. cities due to petty crime rates but, as a female traveler, you should generally feel safe. The city is rich in culture and history, and has a hospitable, welcoming vibe. Crime, when it occurs, is typically concentrated in areas that are away from the main tourist attractions. Nonetheless, it's always wise to remain cautious, especially when out at night or in less busy areas. Use your senses and trust your intuition in order to prioritize your safety.

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Moderate

Savannah has areas that are safe and others that may feel less secure at night. The historic and tourist districts, often patrolled by police, are generally safe. However, like in any other city, walking alone at night may pose risks so it's prudential to remain aware of your surroundings. Making use of taxis, Uber, or Lyft during late hours can be a safer choice, especially when navigating outlying areas.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Savannah, mainly includes buses and taxis. These services are generally safe and reliable. The drivers are professional, and vehicles are well-maintained. Furthermore, many locals use these services daily, which adds to the overall safety. However, late-night travel can be less secure and might require extra caution.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Savannah has a relatively low level of street harassment. As a bustling tourist city, it is generally safe for solo female travelers. However, like any city, harassment can occur, albeit infrequently. Most of the locals are polite, courteous, and respectful. Always ensure to exercise normal precautions such as avoiding empty streets at night and staying in well-populated areas in order to maximize your safety and comfort.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Moderate

Savannah is generally a safe city, though like many urban areas there are certain places and times where and when it's best to stay cautious. Petty crimes such as pickpocketing and bag snatching are occasional, especially in crowded places and major tourist areas, so always keep your belongings close to you. Vehicle break-ins can occur in certain areas, so always make sure to park in well-lit and secure spots, if possible. Be mindful of your surroundings, and always trust your intuition.

Solo travel

I felt safe during the day in the main river walk area. After nightfall I likely wouldn’t walk alone away from that area and chose an Uber to get back to where I was saying. Overall beautiful place with rich history but would be vigilant away from the populated areas.

Family travel

Travelled with my teen daughter. We had an AirBnB in the historic district near Forsyth Park. Felt very safe to walk around daytime and evenings. Recommend the trolley tours get a feel for the area and it’s fun to do
