Is Saint Petersburg safe for solo female travelers?

Saint Petersburg generally has safe areas, particularly the tourist spots. There are well-patrolled, vibrant neighborhoods and areas with lots of cultural activities. However, it is crucial to be aware of your surroundings, stay in well-lit areas and avoid less busy streets at night. Always trust your instincts and use common sense, such as not sharing too much personal information with strangers, not using your cell phone in secluded spots, not accepting drinks from strangers, and not showing off valuable items in plain sight. This is essential to prevent any potential danger.

How safe is Saint Petersburg for female travelers?

Group travel

I had the experience to travel to St. Petersburg in March 2022. It was my second time visiting Florida, with my first trip being to Key West. I went with a group as apart of the Outdoor Adventure Club at my university. I got a great deal because we drove down and the college gave a discounted price including excursions every day. It was worth every penny! St. Petersburg was a beautiful city, and I had a great time. We stayed at the Dolphin Beach Resort, which was beachfront and had a pool. The hotel was great and we had no issues, other travelers were generally an older crowd. There was an AMAZING coffee shop across the street, next to the Publix called Cafe Soleil. I went every morning for the delicious coffee and pastries as well as the extremely kind owner. I even got pastries to bring home with me—they were that good! As for transportation, we had the college van so we did not use public transportation. But there was a bus station close by with cheap tickets to Clearwater. We had activities planned each day, including a sunset cruise, deep sea fishing and eating the fish we caught, a day on Egmont Key (a must if you can—the island has remarkable history and the bluest water), paddle boarding, and a day in Clearwater. I enjoyed every activity but Egmont Key was my favorite. I always felt safe, and prices at stores and restaurants were reasonable and not out of the ordinary. I would definitely recommend St. Pete’s, and it would be the perfect location for a lowkey solo traveller looking for a more quant and relaxed city in Florida.

I'm a Florida transplant & been here since 1985. 38 countries later, and I still call here home. For a big city, it still feels like community you know by name. Proud of our city and the inclusivity

Some areas are very safe, but it's better to treat it as any normal city in America (i.e. don't walk around alone at night). There are streets that will be deserted at night, and walking alone can feel creepy.

Crime rate is 5/10 in Saint Petersburg. We have a lot of emigrates in south countries. In central areas crime lower, in other - higher. I live here 5 years and I have never been robbed and something like that but I’m a girl and I’m scared about other men especially in the dark.

There’s not much public transit to use… but St Pete feels like one of the safer US cities to me. Be situationally aware and plan ahead. Areas downtown like the waterfront parks and the pier feel very safe. I think there is some property crime so I wouldn’t leave bikes and valuables unlocked… but I don’t fear for my physical safety there.
