Is Rochester Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Rochester is a medium-sized city with a diverse community. Like many cities, your safety can depend a lot on where you are in the city and what time of day it is. There are certain areas of Rochester that are known for higher crime rates, and it would be advisable to avoid these areas particularly at night. However, there are also plenty of neighborhoods that are very safe and welcoming. Local law enforcement is generally responsive and the downtown area is often well patrolled. Very safe. A large portion of the population works at the hospital. Family friendly and quiet at night. I often commute to work at 5am and have no concerns being out. I commute by bicycle and no concerns for bike theft, although I lock bike everywhere. Not many options for public transportation.
