Solo travel

Providence is a small, but nice city. I had the pleasure of staying for two weeks and I loved how walkable it was. However, being on College Hill it would get quite steep at times. Providence was a lot more laid back than other cities I had visited, so in terms of lots of attractions and such I would go to Boston to see more. Though there are some local museums that are great, like the RISD museum.

Group travel

It is a small city and there is generally not too much to do. I studied there. Altough I was advised against, it is safe to walk around, even though the city is not very walkable in terms of sidewalks. It is not too budget-friendly, but not worse than in other parts of the US. It is safe to use public transport, I recommend the Wave app.

Very safe city. Of course there are areas to avoid and always better to be with someone at night. Specifically Kennedy plaza and the northwest area can be a bit dodgy at night. But I jog alone at night and feel just fine.
