I consistently walk around at night with my headphones on full volume, sometimes even after the bar, and I have never had a problem. There are a lot of homeless people and occasionally they will yell at you, but I am used to it and it does not make me feel unsafe personally.

Olympia is generally safe, although it’s best to be careful when walking alone at night, especially downtown where there are bars and some illicit activity. Public buses are reliable and people are generally helpful if approached.
