Different areas have more issues than others. But overall Minneapolis and St. Paul are relatively safe and friendly. 

It’s a large spread out metro area with lots of art, parks, lakes, activities plus a variety of seasons.

Definitely depends on the neighborhood. Use common sense and try not to be out late at night alone. Overall safe compared to other large cities and we have friendly people. Transit system is a hit or miss! Buses are fine, be careful on trains and try not to be in the middle car.
