Is Knoxville Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

We experienced the Big Ears festival in March 2023 and had an absolute blast. Most of the festival is in old city which is a hip area of the city with quirky restaurants, the iconic TN theatre and a river running through.

I love Knoxville. As long as you’re being smart you’ll usually be safe! Just stay and let areas with all the people on campus and the strip are usually really safe same with downtown. During the day Knox is so perfect and so walkable!

I have always felt safe especially in my neighborhood but it is America 🤷🏻‍♀️. I am cautious in general. I do not own a gun. I rely on loud barking dogs (if needed) as a deterrent! I grew up in Memphis and did not feel safe living there.

Knoxville is relatively safe, but like any city, it has its issues. Like I would wander around after dark or take public transportation after dark unless necessary. Where I live though is more suburban, so I always feel safe at home.

I personally dealt with many different types of people here but most of the time I ran into good people but I felt unsafe in many areas. The meth and drug usage around this town is insane along with insane amount of homeless people that shouldn’t be homeless. I felt more unsafe with non homeless people and have been sexually harassed more times than I can count in my month stay
