Greensboro is part of the Piedmont Trail region, the 3rd largest metropolis in the state of North Carolina, and is solidly safe with very little crime (especially relative to the more densely populated Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham metropolises). With the area (and NC in general) being very car-dependent, safety is higher as long as you take caution and use discretion depending on the time of day and what area of the city you are spending time in. Unfortunately, like many cities in the US the South and eastern side of the city is lower on the economic ladder and along with that often comes higher crime rates.
