How safe is Grand Junction?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Moderate

Grand Junction is relatively safe, especially in the downtown area where it is often patrolled by local law enforcement. However, like any city, it has its share of crime. It's advisable to avoid walking alone late at night in less frequented areas or poorly lit streets. It's always good to follow basic safety precautions like being aware of your surroundings and not displaying valuable possessions in public.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Grand Junction is commonly used by both locals and visitors. The main modes of transit here are the buses provided by Grand Valley Transit. They are generally safe, well-maintained and quite reliable. The stops are also well organized and staffed. Most of the drivers and passengers are helpful and respectful. However, as with any public transit, it is always wise to remain cautious about your surroundings, especially when traveling at night. Always be aware of your personal belongings and avoid isolated stops or buses that are unusually empty.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Grand Junction usually shows a relative low frequency of street harassment. It is not common to feel unsafe or threatened. However, like every city, it has its share of problematic areas. It is advised to remain vigilant and alert, particularly at night. Although citizens are quite friendly, one should always prioritize safety and exercise caution while traveling.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Moderate

Grand Junction, while generally a safe city, does have some petty crime such as pickpocketing, sneak theft, and car burglary. These types of crime incidents tend to be more common in downtown areas and crowded spaces. However, by taking standard precautions such as not leaving valuables in the car, being aware of your surroundings, and not displaying high-value items openly, it's possible to decrease the likelihood of experiencing such misfortunes.

Most of the crime here is related to the combination of low incomes + drugs in the under-30 crowd, mostly concentrated on the east side of town. So cars getting broken into, bikes getting stolen, that sort of thing. Anything violent is rarely between strangers. There are a few hotels I would absolutely avoid, they are set up a lot like homeless shelters, which says a lot. No, this is not a scary place to live or set out on an outdoorsy adventure from (90 miles from Moab!). It's just the biggest population center (71,000) between Denver and Salt Lake City.

Grand junction is pretty safe… I’ve felt safe all around grand junction. I’m a paranoid girl so walking around at night by myself doesn’t seem like a fun time to me anyway but I’m sure you’d be perfectly safe to walk around at night:)
