My dad is a police officer here, so I know some of the back end stuff, and he usually doesn't have to deal with too much. The worst are shootings, and those are pretty low. Mostly homeless people are the problem.

Great university town with more cultural opportunities than I expected, CSU offers some great community programs. Old Town is very cute and safe and the brewery scene is exceptional. Outdoor life is a joy and the sun shines even in winter. Nearby camping is exceptional.

Fort Collins is a college town with lots of access to fun outdoor activities. I highly suggest spending time around the Poudre River. We do get an increased amount of unhoused people which I know can become a concern for women around old town. In general safety is great, but do keep a check on your surroundings.
Posted: July 30, 2025Fort Collins is a very safe city. It's a college town, filled with friendly students who are willing to help out. Low crime, I know lots of people who don't even lock their doors at night. I feel incredibly safe, both day and night.
Posted: May 1, 2025Fort Collins is a college town that feels very much that way and does not have much crime subsequently. You’ll only see an ambulance every now and then, and I’ve never seen police actively doing much.
