Evansville is generally considered a safe city for solo female travelers. The crime rates are relatively low compared to other American cities, particularly in terms of violent crime. However, it's always important to stay vigilant, especially during night time or in less crowded areas. Use common cautionary tactics like keeping your belongings secure, not sharing personal details with strangers, and trusting your instincts.

How safe is Evansville?
Safety at night:Moderate
Evansville has a mixed reputation regarding safety at night. It is generally recommended to stay cautious, stick to the more populated areas, and avoid isolated or poorly-lit places. Local law enforcement is prompt and responsive, enhancing the overall safety level. However, there have been instances of minor thefts or crimes, so it is advisable to stay vigilant. Using cabs, or Uber rather than walking alone at night, specially in unknown areas is recommended.
Public transportation:Safe
Public transportation in Evansville is generally considered safe. The buses are known to be reliable and punctual, and incidents of crime or harassment are not commonly reported. However, as with any city, it is always important to stay vigilant, particularly during night hours or in more isolated areas. The Metropolitan Evansville Transit System operates most of the public transportation, giving you plenty of options to choose from.
Street harassment:Low
Evansville, known for its Midwestern hospitality, has a generally safe environment. Street harassment doesn't seem to be a rampant issue, although like any city in the world, incidents may occur occasionally. It's a reasonably tranquil town, especially in the downtown and university areas. Always ensure to be cautious and alert, particularly during the late hours, and whenever possible, stick to well-trafficked areas.
Petty crimes:Moderate
Evansville has a moderate level of petty crimes, which mainly includes thefts, minor assault, pickpockets especially in crowded places, and occasional car break-ins. Although not rampant, these crimes are present, so it is advisable to stay vigilant, avoid poorly lit or deserted areas at night, and always keep your belongings secure.

Is Evansville safe for women?
Evansville is not somewhere I would want to walk around alone at night time, but during the day it is pretty safe. I have never had any problems with public transportation or public areas like the museum.
