It is safe overall. Some unsafe areas such as Linden and the westside of Columbus. Dont talk to people you do not know or try to do anything unsavory. Keep to yourself if you have to travel here. Very nice overall

Columbus is best and safest during daytime hours or with friends at nighttime hours. Be cautious in Downtown Columbus at night. Do not go to the Hilltop area at all. Other than that, North and East of Columbus are always pretty safe and fun.

Vast majority of its safe, however, there are a few areas that are considered a bit sketchy. Most of the violent crime is between gangs and won't effect visitors or unrelated residents. I personally feel comfortable by myself at night, but if nervous, bringing a buddy downtown (uptown) with you at night is always a good call.
