How safe is Cincinnati?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Moderate

Cincinnati, like many urban areas, has both safe and less safe neighborhoods. Downtown Cincinnati and areas like Over-the-Rhine are bustling with nightlife activities and have a heavier police presence, which can create a sense of security. However, it's advisable to be aware of your surroundings, avoid deserted streets, and consider choosing public transportation or a trusted taxi service, especially late at night. Travel in groups whenever possible and use common sense precautions, as you would in any major city.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Cincinnati, particularly the buses and the Cincinnati Bell Connector streetcar, is generally reliable and safe. Many locals and tourists alike use these services for their daily commute. They are well-maintained and have good security measures. Most of the incidents reported tend to be minor ones. Nonetheless, as with any public transport system, it is always advisable to remain vigilant, especially during late-night hours or less busy times. On-the-go, use mobile applications to get real-time updates about transportation schedules and routes which can help avoid waiting at stops for extended periods.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:High

Cincinnati has mostly friendly locals who are generally hospitable towards travelers. However, like in any urban setting, undesirable encounters such as street harassment do occur to varying extents. It is advisable to stay alert in public spaces, especially during night time or in less crowded areas. Always adopt safe practices like walking in well-lit areas, and if you feel uncomfortable, don't hesitate to leave the situation or seek help. Avoid giving out personal details to strangers and trust your instincts at all times.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Moderate

Cincinnati is relatively safe compared to other US cities but it is not crime-free. Petty crimes like pickpocketing or purse snatchings do happen occasionally. Particularly in crowded tourist areas and public transportation systems, it's recommended to remain vigilant, safeguarding your belongings at all times.

There are a ton of great restaurants in Cincinnati. For a unique dining experience, try eating at the Sacred Beast, they throw a twist on traditional. Try the lemony ricotta pancakes or the glazed pork belly

Is Cincinnati safe for women?

Safety index

2.9 /5

Crime index

1.9 /5

Based on 4 local experiences

I've only been here for 4 months now but I feel pretty safe here. Eventhough there are some people in the parks that seem to be on drugs or something. But they never really look at me. Sometimes the say something that I usually don't understand but I've never been followed by them and I don't feel unsafe.

Depends on what neighborhood you are in. Clifton, OTR, and Downtown are three of the neighborhoods that I would be cautious with visiting. It is okay to visit during the day but once dark, I would be aware your surroundings and belongings. As a woman, I would not walk alone in any of those neighborhoods

About Me

I'm a big nerd (working on my doctorate in the States atm). I write poetry and compose music (love Lana Del Ray). I'm a big international girl (have lived in several countries before). I rather sit at a local cafe during my travel to write or snuck inside a bookstore. I'm not into night club or alcohol 😓 but I can definitely watch out for my peers when they get drunk.

About me

I am a 22-year old traveling enthusiast who is trying to see as much as the world before matriculating into medical school. I love to try new things, meet new people, and experience new cultures. When I am not traveling, I can be found working as part time as a nanny, watching first responder shows, collecting house plants, cooking new recipes, or my favorite, napping.
