How safe is Charlotte?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Moderate

Charlotte is a city with a varying degree of safety at night depending on the district. Downtown areas like Uptown and South End are typically safer due to high levels of community engagement, frequent patrols, and well-lit streets. However, in other areas, caution should be exercised as they may not be as secure. Always remain aware of your surroundings, walk with confidence, and avoid isolated areas. Using car services like Uber and Lyft instead of walking alone at late hours might also be a good idea for added safety.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Charlotte is generally safe and well-maintained. This includes the local buses and the LYNX light rail system. The drivers and personnel are professional and assistance is available when needed. However, as with any city, it's important to remain ever watchful of your surroundings, particularly at night or in less crowded locations.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Charlotte, generally has low cases of street harassment, particularly with city efforts to ensure safety. Nonetheless, it is always important to take personal security measures particularly at night or in less crowded areas, as incidents, while sporadic, can sometimes occur.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Moderate

Charlotte, as a metropolitan area in the U.S, is susceptible to petty crimes like pick-pocketing, purse snatching, and minor burglary. These crimes usually take place in crowded areas or places with limited surveillance. However, majority of commercial and tourist areas maintain good security protocols. Please keep your belongings close and be aware of your surroundings at all times to lessen any risk.
Tap water:

Tap water:Very safe

Tap water in Charlotte is generally very safe to drink. The Water Quality Department in Charlotte routinely monitors the water supply for any contaminants. Regular reports are issued on the water quality confirming that it meets or exceeds federal standards. This is due to the local government’s commitment to ensuring that the water is properly treated with stringent controls on water purification. Therefore, it's completely safe for consumption without any need for further filtration.

In a young woman living in CLT and my overall point view of Charlotte is safe. It has it areas where I might feel uncomfy but overall a great place to live and walk around. I walk my dog all around the city and have never had problems. I would tell all my friends to move here

Beautiful, green, full of parks, breweries and fun outdoors activities! Not a city full of history or museums, but if you are outdoorsy and love hanging out in a beer garden, this is your perfect city!
