Chapel Hill has almost no violent crime. Bikes and packages are sometimes stolen if left on the same place for a while but I feel very safe in Chapel Hill. I have never had an encounter where I had to call the police or felt like my life was threatened.

Crime and suspicious activity are generally based around the University and on their grounds or close to and are typically petty. I am not based in city center, but rural and do not fear for my safety at home. I answered the questions about the city or Chapel Hill itself.

Very safe! Residential and university town. There are some aggressive homeless individuals on the Main Street but they very rarely bother. I feel quite safe walking home alone at night on weekends, as many students are often out late. On weekdays, you may feel safer walking with another person after dark, but that would be an extra precaution rather than an essential one.
