How safe is Albuquerque?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Unsafe

While Albuquerque has many beautiful areas to explore, it's important to note it has a high crime rate compared to other US cities. Walking alone at night may not be the safest option in certain areas, particularly in the downtown or more isolated locations. Use caution if you must travel alone at night and consider using taxi services, rideshares or public transportation. Furthermore, always be aware of your surroundings. It is highly recommended not to display expensive items and stay in well-lit areas with a lot of people around.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Moderate

Public transportation in Albuquerque includes a bus system and a rail line. The bus system is generally dependable during the day but service lessens at night. It can vary between routes and neighborhoods, so it's recommended to check schedules and routes ahead of time. The commuter rail connects Albuquerque to Santa Fe and is typically seen as safe and reliable. However, like any public transportation system, it's always necessary to be aware of your surroundings and maintain personal safety precautions. As a solo female traveler, you may want to use rideshare services or taxis during late hours for additional security.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Moderate

While exploring Albuquerque, street harassment can happen, but it's not extremely frequent. Like many urban areas, it still boasts a mix of different experiences. During the daytime, especially in crowded or tourist areas, you might feel quite safe. However, it would be wise to pay extra attention late at night or in less populated spots. Criminal activities including street harassment have been reported, but keep in mind that the intensity may vary depending on specific areas within the city.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Moderate

Petty crimes such as theft and pickpocketing are somewhat common in Albuquerque, especially in crowded areas and tourist spots. Always take care of your personal belongings, be attentive to your surroundings and take necessary precautions.

Albuquerque gets a bad rap, there are places that are very dangerous, but there are also so many incredibly safe places. Basically just don’t go below I40 unless you’re in Nob Hill or old town area and you’re fine

Honestly Albuquerque isn’t really a safe place, especially while driving. Be really careful when on central because there’s a lot of homeless and crime there. Police here in my experience are lazy and won’t do much to help.
