Is Kosice Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Kosice is generally a safe city to visit. While crime is relatively low, it's always recommended to exercise standard precautions, such as avoiding unlit and deserted areas late at night, and being aware of your surroundings. While the locals generally tend to be welcoming and there's a good network of public transportation, being a non-Slavic foreigner might draw some attention. Always remember, personal safety can largely depend on individual behaviour and intent.

How safe is Kosice?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Kosice is generally quite safe for solo female travelers even at night. It's a small city with a low crime rate compared to other cities. Streets are well-lit, particularly in the city's center, and the nightlife areas are usually crowded until late hours. However, as in any place, it's always wise to stay cautious, stick to populated areas and avoid dark alleys or secluded places. Public transportation is safe to use but always mind your belongings.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Kosice is generally reliable and safe. Most commuters take the trams, buses, or taxis to get around. The vehicles are well-maintained and the drivers are professional. Just like in any other city, it's always a good idea to stay aware of your surroundings and keep an eye on your belongings. During night hours, it might be better to use taxis or rideshare services for added security. Always make sure to have a trusted taxi company number for your safety.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Kosice, being the second-largest city in Slovakia, is generally safe and respectful towards women. While isolated incidents of street harassment cannot be ruled out entirely, they are not common. As with every destination, it is always advised to remain cautious and vigilant, especially during night time or in less populated areas.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Kosice generally has a low level of petty crimes. As is typical of most tourist destinations, incidences like pickpocketing or small scams might happen occasionally, especially in crowded places. However, with normal precautions such as keeping your belongings secure and being aware of your surroundings, the likelihood of becoming a victim is considerably mitigated. Overall, the city is considered quite safe for travellers, including solo female adventurers.

Is Kosice worth visiting?

Solo travel

I love Košice, but there are some dark places. If you are not local or with someone that knows the town very well, I would not recommend exploring side streets, because a lot of time u can meet there junkies or just some very weird people. The city is known for its beautiful square but also for that there are a lot of junkies. But otherwise it is safe to hang out on the main street and other popular places.

Is Kosice safe for women?

Kosice is a small town with great young spirit, however it might be bit boring in a night. There are some homeless people that might be scary and start talking to you, but you can easily just walk away from them. About public transport, I personally felt very safe using it. Tip: if you don’t feel safe in a transport just sit in front of the bus/trolley.

I feel usually safe during the day and in the evenings. At night I usually take a taxi. It can be pretty vacant and calm during the week in the city center, at the end of the week it’s moderately lively, mostly with young people.
