It’s fairly safe here, but you can’t completely ignore the possibility of encountering Roma people who might snatch something from you, offend you, hit you, or do something else. Overall, Slovakia has very friendly people, and in Žilina, incidents don’t happen very often. At least, nothing has ever happened to me — no one has stolen from me or hurt me in the three years I’ve been here, and, in general, I consider Žilina to be a fairly safe city. That said, you should be cautious of the Roma, but they are present throughout Slovakia, so it’s something to keep in mind.
