Very safe but is just a residential area. Town center is nice and well connected. Not the best area to visit the island,  but it's safe . 
Overall Malta is a safe country, but in touristic places sometimes become more risky

Birkirkara is a nice town in Malta, mainly residential, so it’s really calm. Have good transportation to Valleta and it’s well connected to other cities.
St. Helen church is a nice place to see around here
