Is Ravenna safe for solo female travelers?

Ravenna is generally considered a safe destination for solo female travelers. This small, walkable city has a low crime rate compared to other larger Italian cities. Its infamous sights like the Byzantine mosaics attract a lot of tourists and therefore, police presence can be expected. However, basic precautions should always be taken, such as avoiding deserted areas at night, and being wary of pickpockets in crowded places. Always trust your instincts and stay alert.

Ravenna is a lovely city pretty safe and lived mainly by locals. Except for the area of the train and bus station the rest of the centre is totally safe for everybody. I have never experienced of any assault as a female, even if I did feel a little uncomfortable when walking in front of the station because of same comments or looking.

Its not the safest place to live but in the day time its so safe, all of the people including both genders are so happy to help about anything. But in the night i am a little bit afraid of the people who are involved in drugs

i actually feel safe in Ravenna, you have to be careful during night time of couse. After a certain hour it becomes like a ghost town so its a but scary. I don’t reccomed Darsena at night, veri beautiful but not that safe

Ravenna being a rather small city, it is pretty safe during the day and also at night. I don’t think I’ve ever seen any catcalling here, or very rarely. I always feel safe when walking at night, especially in the city center.

About me

As a French-Italian citizen, I’ve always loved travelling, discovering new cultures and speaking foreign languages. I currently live in Ravenna, Italy, where I work from home in the fundraising sector (helping non profits to collect better and raise more funds). I travelled a lot in my early 20s and lived in Montreal and London for my studies. In 2024 I travelled in France, Italy, Portugal and Japan. If you plan on visiting Ravenna, I would be happy to take you around the city and would love to hear your travel stories!
