Posted: May 28, 2025Experienced: May, 2021We stopped within walking distance of the train station in La Spezia. First, we took a stroll around Riomaggiore, then we took a train to Manarola where we participated in a lesson on making pesto at Nessun Dorma. From there, we took a train to Corniglia, which is the only town not located at sea level. It is situated on top of a cliff, so we had a lot of stairs to climb from the station. We followed the trail from Corniglia to Vernazza, took a break for some ice cream, then took a water taxi to Monterosso, where we watched the sunset and had dinner, before returning by train to La Spezia.

It is a small and fairly safe city. Certain areas should be avoided, especially in the evening/night.
Posted: March 9, 2025La spezia is a safe place where nothing happens really. You never know who you find at night. I would avoid the train station area. Otherwise, you can feel comfortable walking around the city both in the day and night
Posted: September 4, 2024As in any other place, it is always good to be cautious and it would be better not to wander around alone at night.. all in all La Spezia is a safe city, I would recommend it to anyone who wants to visit it in peace (and as a solo travel lady, it is very doable, I guarantee)!
