It's also advisable not to flash valuable items or cash to avoid attracting unwanted attention.

Public transportation in La Spezia is generally safe and reliable. Bus is the common form of public transport and they're relatively timely and well-maintained. Just be mindful of pickpockets, especially in crowded situations, and keep an eye on your belongings at all times as you would in any other place. However, instances of crime are relatively rare, and many travelers have used these means of transport without encountering any problems.

La Spezia generally has a low level of street harassment, as the local community is quite welcoming and respectful towards travelers. It's a relatively small city compared to others in Italy, and this contributes to its overall safer conditions. However, harassment incidents are not regularly reported by female solo travelers visiting the city, indicating the likelihood of such encounters is minimal.

However, as a tourist, it's always good practice to remain vigilant, especially in crowded places, and to secure your belongings. Furthermore, while instances of muggings are rare, it's advisable not to flaunt expensive items while out and about.
Tap water:

Tap water in La Spezia, is generally considered safe for drinking. It's subject to rigorous testing and safety standards in line with European regulations. Is La Spezia safe for women?

As in any other place, it is always good to be cautious and it would be better not to wander around alone at night.. all in all La Spezia is a safe city, I would recommend it to anyone who wants to visit it in peace (and as a solo travel lady, it is very doable, I guarantee)!

Is La Spezia worth visiting?

Group travel experience

We stopped within walking distance of the train station in La Spezia. First, we took a stroll around Riomaggiore, then we took a train to Manarola where we participated in a lesson on making pesto at Nessun Dorma. From there, we took a train to Corniglia, which is the only town not located at sea level. It is situated on top of a cliff, so we had a lot of stairs to climb from the station. We followed the trail from Corniglia to Vernazza, took a break for some ice cream, then took a water taxi to Monterosso, where we watched the sunset and had dinner, before returning by train to La Spezia.
