Is Trivandrum safe for solo female travelers?

Trivandrum, or Thiruvananthapuram, India's southernmost city, is generally safe for solo female travelers. Locals are generally friendly and willing to help if you find yourself in any sort of trouble. The city is also well-policed, especially in tourist areas. However, like anywhere else, it's important to take standard precautions, avoid secluded areas after dark, and be wary of anyone who seems overly friendly or insistent.
