Rameswaram is an important pilgrimage site in India and the locals are used to seeing travelers, including solo females. There’s a strong police presence and locals are usually friendly and willing to help. Just like any other tourist place, be cautious about your surroundings particularly in crowded areas as minor thefts can occur. Also, avoid deserted areas at night.
