Safety at night:Safe

Hampi is relatively safe for solo female travelers at night. However, like many places, it's good practice to remain cautious when traveling alone. Streets are quite deserted after it is dark. Though violent crime is relatively low, there can potentially be unlit areas and often fewer people around, which could pose a security concern. Stick to populated areas, avoid isolated places, and consider hiring a reputable driver or cycle rickshaw near your accommodation for your travels if you have to move around in the night.

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Hampi, such as autorickshaws, buses, and rented bicycles/mopeds, is often safe to use. However, it is advised to negotiate prices before travel to avoid being overcharged. Night travel may be less safe, so it's recommended to return to your accommodation before dark. As a solo female traveler, always keep your belongings close and be aware of your surroundings.

Street harassment:Low

Hampi, being a popular tourist destination, tends to be safer when it comes to street harassment compared to other locations in India. Most of the local people are used to foreign travelers and are generally respectful. However, like anywhere else, it's important to stay vigilant, especially during the evening and in less crowded areas.

Petty crimes:Low

Hampi is a popular tourist destination in India visited by many solo female travelers. The risk of petty crimes like pickpocketing or purse-snatching is relatively low. However, it is advisable to always keep your belongings safe and maintain vigilance for your personal security.

Tap water:Unsafe

Drinking tap water in Hampi directly is generally not recommended. It's advised to either boil the tap water for at least one minute or purify it with a reliable filter before consumption. Alternatively, consider drinking bottled water, which is readily available, to reduce the risk of any water-borne illnesses.

Solo travel experience

Felt safe, it’s a quaint hippie place, very cheap homemade food and Homestays. Costs Less that ₹5000 for a week for stay and food. The stats are better on the island than the mainland. Many hostel/dorms are available too.
