How safe is Bhopal?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Moderate

Bhopal is generally considered moderately safe but it's always recommended to be cautious, especially at night. While the city is bustling and lively during the day, it can get quite deserted post 10 pm with limited public transportation. For enhanced safety, refrain from walking alone at night in unfamiliar and poorly lit areas. Always try to stay in populated areas, or hire a reputable taxi or auto-rickshaw when commuting during late hours. Additionally, always be alert and mindful of your surroundings. Remember, your safety is always in your own hands.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Moderate

Public transportation in Bhopal is somewhat reliable and generally safe, especially during daytime hours. The city buses and mini-buses run by the Bhopal City Link Limited (BCLL) cover most parts of the city and are frequently used by locals. They are usually crowded, which can lead to discomfort but also provides a certain level of safety due to the presence of other people. Auto rickshaws and taxis are abundantly available, but it is advisable to negotiate the price before the journey. Though serious incidents are not common, instances of pickpocketing or minor harassment could occur, so it's important to stay vigilant. Trusted ride-hailing apps such as Ola and Uber also operate in the city, offering a safer alternative to traditional taxis, especially at night.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Bhopal, the capital city of Madhya Pradesh, is popularly known as the 'City of Lakes'. It is generally considered a safe city for women, with residents often demonstrating a hospitable and respectful attitude towards tourists. However, as anywhere else in the world, it is always recommended to stay alert and be conscious of personal safety, particularly at night or when in isolated areas. Incidents of street harassment are not very frequent, but it's important to employ sound judgment when interacting with locals or navigating the city.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Moderate

Bhopal, the capital city of Madhya Pradesh in India, generally enjoys a reputation for being safe, but petty crimes like pickpocketing and small-scale scams are not uncommon, particularly around major tourist sites and crowded market areas. Travelers are advised to be cautious, always vigilant about their belongings and avoid isolated areas, particularly after dark.
