How safe is Ayodhya?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Ayodhya is relatively safe for solo female travelers, with police presence due to its religious significance and regular influx of pilgrims. While it's generally safe, it's advisable not to wander off to isolated parts at night, and stick to well-lit areas where there are people around. Always let someone know where you are, especially if you plan to explore at night. Local customs and dressing appropriately can also contribute to a safer experience. However, as with all travel, vigilance is key, and it is better to avoid walking alone late at night.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Ayodhya, including buses, rickshaws, and taxis, is generally safe and frequented by locals daily. However, it's advised to be aware of your surroundings and keep your belongings secure due to occasional instances of pickpocketing. Moreover, some travelers might find navigating the local transportation system a bit challenging due to language barriers. It's also suggested to avoid isolated bus stops during late hours.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Moderate

Ayodhya, like any other cities in India, may experience occasional instances of street harassment. However, the frequency of such incidents is not extremely high or intimidating. It is always recommended to be vigilant, especially in crowded areas and during late hours. The city has good police presence and people around you are generally very helpful. However, cultural sensitivities may mean that the reactions and behavior from the locals might come across as overwhelming at times.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

In general, Ayodhya, famous as a religious city in India, maintains a largely peaceful atmosphere helpful to pilgrims and travelers. However, like any other crowded tourist spot, minor incidents of theft or pickpocketing can happen, but aren't a widespread problem. It's advisable to be cautious with your belongings, not to carry unnecessary items during temple visits, and avoid isolated areas after dark.

Is Ayodhya worth visiting?

Solo travel

I just visited and all resources are there to make you feel safe. I stayed at the Radisson and walked to the junction to get the bus to Ram Janmabhoomi. From there I walked everywhere. The latest I traveled was around 8 pm and the rickshaw drivers were very nice and helpful. There are a lot of police everywhere willing to assist. Places I walked to in one day: - Ram Janmabhoomi (shorter line in the evening but it also moves very quickly) - Dasharath Bhavan - Ram Bharat Milap - Kanak Bhavan - Tulsidas Smaran - Valmiki Bhavan (I was a little wary walking here but only because I was unfamiliar…it was safe and fine) - Sarayu Nadi Naya Ghat - Hanuman Garhi
