Is Ahmedabad Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Ahmedabad is generally considered a secure destination for solo female travelers due to its well-regulated laws and watchful police force. However, it is always prudent to stay alert and aware of your surroundings. Respect the cultural norms and dress codes, and avoid taking less-traveled roads after dark. Don't share your accommodation details with strangers and stay in touch with family and friends, updating them about your whereabouts. Otherwise, locals are hospitable and the city offers a real insight into India's traditions and customs.

How safe is Ahmedabad?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Moderate

Ahmedabad can be moderately safe to navigate at night. While it is generally peaceful and the locals are friendly, it's always important to take standard precautions. Avoid isolated areas and stick to well-lit, populated streets. Using reputable transportation will also aid in ensuring safety. Remember to stay vigilant and aware of your surroundings at all times.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Ahmedabad offers a wide range of public transportation means, like metro, buses, auto-rickshaws and taxis that are generally safe to use. However, it can get crowded at times, especially during peak hours. It is always advisable to stay alert and mind your belongings. The drivers are commonly respectful and helpful towards tourists. There are dedicated local police and special units ensuring the safety of travelers, but it's also important to understand and respect the local culture and customs.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Ahmedabad, as a major city in India, has relatively lower street harassment incidents compared to other Indian cities. Generally, the locals are respectful and it's quite rare for women to experience major issues, although mild comments can sometimes be directed towards foreigners - especially if dressed in a non-traditional manner. As usual, take normal safety precautions like you would in any other city worldwide and avoid walking alone in secluded areas after dark.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Ahmedabad is relatively safe when it comes to petty crimes. Incidences of minor thefts, pickpocketing, or scams can occur, especially in crowded areas and public transportation. However, they are not extremely common and taking simple precautions like keeping an eye on belongings and avoiding flashing valuables can largely prevent such occurrences.

It’s really safe for girls. You can go out till 2 am here and nobody will say a word or stare at you unlike other states in india! I’ve had a few incidents where men helped me late at night, I think Ahmedabad is safe

Ahmedabad is generally a pretty safe city. I've often roamed around the streets late at night as well without any issues. But it also depends on the area. The area where i live is a college area with a lot of universities so students are always roaming around even at night so it doesn't feel that unsafe. If you were to go to the old city or some other parts of Ahmedabad then you should definitely be a bit more alert and careful.
