Is Curitiba Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Curitiba is considered as moderately safe for solo female travelers. It's seen as one of the safer and wealthier states in Brazil. However, as much as it's safer than other Brazilian cities, incidents of petty crime like pickpocketing or bag snatching are not uncommon. It's advisable to keep your belongings secure, avoid poorly lit and deserted areas especially at night and exercise general caution.

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Moderate

Curitiba, like many vibrant cities, has a diverse nightlife. While generally, there are safe and well-lit areas like Batel and Centro, areas which are busy with people even late into the night; we also have parts that can be considered less secure especially for solo female travelers. Always keep your personal belongings secure and avoid less crowded streets. Don't flash expensive items and always trust your instincts. Cabs and ride-sharing apps like Uber are readily available for safer transportation during late hours.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Curiciba, Brazil is generally very safe and efficient. It's one of the cities in Brazil that is most famous for its revolutionary BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) system. Buses are well-maintained, frequent, and reach most areas of the city, including tourist attractions. Like all public transports, it is advisable to take note of your belongings and be attentive to your surroundings, as pickpockets can be a problem. However, such incidents are rather uncommon and the locals are very helpful if you need any assistance. Traveling during daylight hours is particularly safe. Extra precautions should be taken late at night.

In Curitiba, street harassment is not a common issue faced by solo female travelers. While it is crucial to always stay vigilant and aware of your surroundings, multiple traveler reports have indicated that the locals are mostly respectful and civil. It's important to maintain personal safety protocols, such as not walking alone late at night in unfamiliar areas and avoiding confrontations. Women in Curitiba generally feel comfortable exploring the city on their own during the day.
Petty crimes:

Is Curitiba worth visiting?

Is Curitiba safe for women?

Curitiba is a great city to live in Brazil, but like any big city, we can never ignorate crime, which also happens here! I don’t like walking alone on the streets at night, but I always take Uber and it’s very safe. In the evening or at restaurants, it’s always very welcoming.

Curitiba is a friendly city in certain areas, but it's good to always be attentive. I don't recommend being alone on the street at night. Some regions are more dangerous, so stay alert. Compared to São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, it is much safer here.

About Me

I'm not experienced traveling alone, let alone abroad, so I'm here to find advice and connect with people. About me... I'm an I so it takes me a while to open up to people, I have a cat, dogs and chicken, I'm a vegetarian (but I don't mind people eating meat around me), I like seeing new places and walking around taking pictures of everything.

About me

Hello everyone, I'm Letizia, I'm 31 years old and I absolute love traveling. Currently I work remotely. I am very communicative, easy-going and chill. I love listening to stories. I love sharing experiences because I really feel that's the best way of learning from others. I really enjoy going out to dance and to have a good time. I really like soccer, so going to stadiums is something I appreciate A LOT. Music festivals? I'm down for it. One of the things I like the most about traveling as well, is speaking different languages and learning about different cultures. I get overwhelmed about traditional habits people from all over the world have because most of the times they are so different from what I'm used to. I like getting out of my confort zone, even though it's pretty hard. I love gelato, popcorn and pistacchi. Actually, I love food despite of the fact that I don't eat meat. I love apperol spritz and wine.
