Is Florianopolis Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Florianopolis, commonly known as 'Floripa', is considered one of the safer cities in Brazil, particularly when compared with bigger cities such as Rio de Janeiro or Sao Paulo. The locals are generally friendly and accommodating to tourists. However, like any destination, it's important to take standard safety precautions. Avoid isolated areas at night, always keep an eye on your belongings, and use only trusted means of transportation. Despite these precautions, please remember that safety conditions can rapidly change, so it's advisable to always stay updated on current events in the area.

How safe is Florianopolis?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Moderate

Florianopolis generally has a safer reputation than other Brazilian cities. However, like any other city, it can vary significantly depending on the area. The more touristic areas like Lagoa da Conceição are generally safe, well-lit, and patrolled. But, some neighborhoods can be more deserted and less safe at night. So as a solo female traveler, it's best to stay in highly public areas, avoid empty streets and be aware of your surroundings, especially after sunset. Perhaps consider taking a taxi for longer distances during the night.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Moderate

Public transportation in Florianopolis is moderate in terms of safety. Buses are the most common type of public transportation and are generally reliable during the day. Most of the buses are well-maintained, and drivers are often helpful. However, during peak hours, buses can be crowded which may increase the risk of pickpocketing. As in any location, vigilance is advised, particularly at night or in less busy areas.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Florianopolis is generally a safe city for women traveling alone. The local people are friendly and respectful, and instances of street harassment are relatively low. As always when traveling, it's advisable to be cautious and aware of your surroundings, particularly at night, but most visitors have a positive experience with no issues related to harassment.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Moderate

Florianopolis is generally a safe city in Brazil, however, like any other city, petty crimes such as pickpocketing and bag snatching can happen. This is particularly true in crowded areas or at beaches. Always stay alert and watchful of your belongings. Also, avoid showing off expensive items or carrying large amounts of money. It is recommended that solo female travelers take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.

Solo travel

Florianópolis is a place with beautiful beaches and infrastructure. It is worth visiting and enjoying the tours, appreciating the landscapes, and indulging in the dining options as well. The cost of living is a bit higher.

Solo travel

It is a really nice city, the public transportation is not good at all so I recommend having a bike or a car rented. Overall people were really kind, of course in the center of the city is more dangerous so you need to be extra careful there

Group travel

I was in Florianópolis for 7 days. I started in the south of the island where I explored the chilly beaches and the nightlife with friends from around the world. Later, I went to the north of the island where the beaches are calmer and there are many families.

Is Florianopolis safe for women?

the city is considered safe, but remains a city in Latin America. It is necessary to always be careful and avoid walking at night in some neighborhoods of the city, especially in the downtown and in very deserted places.
