In the more touristic places it is super safe, no worries at all. Then there are a few other neighourhoods where you have to take care (dealers, milicia, etc), but they are pretty especific. In the historical centre there is nothing to worry about.

Paraty is a safe place, but we are still in the Rio de Janeiro region. The village is growing, and with that, more crimes are happening. However, it is still a nice place to live. I used to walk alone many times. Enjoy!

I had a great time! Overall, I felt safe. I asked around and was advised not to go to a certain area of the town, and I didn’t. Walking alone during the day was no problem. At night, I tried to go out less, but there was no problem in the town center. The local people were super friendly.
