Is Paraty Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

I had a great time! Overall, I felt safe. I asked around and was advised not to go to a certain area of the town, and I didn’t. Walking alone during the day was no problem. At night, I tried to go out less, but there was no problem in the town center. The local people were super friendly. I went on several excursions: took a boat trip, did a jeep tour to the waterfalls and distilleries where cachaça is made. I loved Paraty. It's my favorite city in the world. I stayed in the historical part and felt safe all the time.

paraty is very safe! i’ve lived here for years and have never had any problems, and tourists usually don’t either. i’d definitely recommend it for anyone taking their first solo trip. the city is welcoming, easy to explore on foot, and the locals are friendly and helpful. there are beautiful beaches, waterfalls, and a charming historic center to enjoy.

In the more touristic places it is super safe, no worries at all. Then there are a few other neighourhoods where you have to take care (dealers, milicia, etc), but they are pretty especific. In the historical centre there is nothing to worry about.

Paraty is a safe place, but we are still in the Rio de Janeiro region. The village is growing, and with that, more crimes are happening. However, it is still a nice place to live. I used to walk alone many times. Enjoy!
