I feel safe in my area of New Jersey however I live in the suburbs and that's based on my experience here, I would probably not feel as safe in the cities here and crimes can happen anywhere at anytime unfortunately especially to us women. NYC is the city im closest to and i often go on day trips and feel safe.

Anywhere in the world can be dangerous always have a plan, be with someone if you’re not familiar with the area! New Jersey is a great place, great restaurants and great people. There are different parts of New Jersey each area is different the way we do things.
