It’s helpful to know which areas of Charlotte are safest so please research before visiting. Some areas are very safe in the daytime but opportunistic crime happens late at night. Charlotte is a fun city, lots of new people moving for jobs, but not so tourist focused.
Posted: December 1, 2024It is fairly safe during the day time hours. I would suggest female travelers to stick to the happenings areas in uptown post 8 PM. And try to avoid walking in dark in not so happenings areas. The city also doesn’t have a lot of street lights so I would suggest you stick having activities planned until 8 PM and then retire and energize for the next day.

Crime in Charlotte is about average compared to other cities of like size. I take my safety into my own hands. I conceal carry and am always aware of my surroundings. I don’t go out after dark by myself and keep car doors locked. If one remains aware then the odds of being accosted are greatly reduced. I live outside the metro area in the countryside and I do feel as if it is safer than inside the metro area.
Posted: September 22, 2024It really comes down to the area you are in. Be careful uptown at night as the type of people and scene can change depending on your location. Definitely recommend citizen app or researching the area you choose to stay in
Posted: August 25, 2024In a young woman living in CLT and my overall point view of Charlotte is safe. It has it areas where I might feel uncomfy but overall a great place to live and walk around. I walk my dog all around the city and have never had problems. I would tell all my friends to move here
Posted: June 25, 2024Beautiful, green, full of parks, breweries and fun outdoors activities! Not a city full of history or museums, but if you are outdoorsy and love hanging out in a beer garden, this is your perfect city!

Charlotte is a super safe city, especially outside of Uptown proper. South End, NoDa, Plaza Midwood, and most of the cozy/suburban feel neighborhoods are all super safe. The only uncomfortable situations I’ve been in have been in Uptown, so I only go during the day. Much of the nightlife is outside of Uptown anyways. My apartment feels super safe and I frequently adventure out alone.

I personally think it's a safe city but of course I heard some crimes here and there. I try to avoid walking alone when it's dark and some of the parts of the city can get sketchy. I will advise you if you're coming!
Posted: May 31, 2024I stayed in charlotte for less than a month it was great and I felt very safe. I was greeted respectfully and everyone was friendly. 10/10 would recommend coming to Charlotte Nc. I was paying $25 a night for a great place.
