I lived there for 1.5 years and in general the overall situation there is quite safe, I have never had anything stolen on the street, I have never been attacked or treated rudely, even the homeless are quite decent) public transport is also safe, no one has ever bothered me, but I don't think it's worth walking alone at night (I think this applies to any country)

it depends on the area, some parts of the city are very safe, other areas are not because of a lot of poor people living there, but i’d say the main popular tourist areas are safe to visit and enjoy it

St. Petersburg is quite a tourist city, so there are many streets with bars and sometimes I don't feel very safe next to them, I use a special application in telegram that shows the safety of areas for women. It's also not very safe here in terms of expressing our political views. My friend and I were once arrested for five days for laying flowers at a monument to victims of political repression. but I think it's just such a time in Russia right now.Otherwise, the city is quite safe and pleasant, apart from the gloomy weather.

Saint Petersburg is a generally safe city, but like any major metropolis, it requires basic precautions. The historic center and main tourist areas remain secure at all hours thanks to visible police presence and bustling crowds. However, it's wise to avoid dimly lit side streets and suburban districts late at night. While violent crime is rare, always use licensed taxi apps like Yandex or Uber to avoid scams. Note that police may randomly check foreigners' documents, so carry a passport copy. The neighborhood where I live is quiet and residential with low crime rates.
Posted: April 6, 2025I think it depends on a district where you live or where you at the moment. You should avoid the outskirts of the city in the evening if you are not familiar with them and do not look like a local citizen. It is quite safe in the downtown and in tourist places, there is always someone who can help if necessary. Besides, the police are always on duty. Fortunately or not, there are even too many police on duty in the city centre of St. Petersburg.

A wonderful place to spend time in ;) It’s very safe here, people are very nice and open. There are a lot of things to see not only in the city itself, but also outside the city center. The transportation is great, almost everything is open till late night or 24h. I recommend going here !
Posted: March 28, 2025I promise that St. Petersburg is a wonderful city to live in and for tourists. I have never seen scenes of harassment and murder (I have lived here since childhood) or anything like that, my city is very safe.

Saint Petersburg is very historical, beautiful and interesting city. You can find many things, doesn’t matter what’s your purpose or budget. Be careful with robbers (sometimes it might happen 🌚), don’t walk alone at night if it’s possible (as almost everywhere but especially at the city center). People might trick you but mostly you can find someone who speaks English, not overrated magnets or smth as a souvenir etc. Maps are working good (especially Yandex or 2gis), museums are big, people are fine)
Posted: March 15, 2025Living here you adapt. But all my life I feel uncomfortable walking down the streets in dresses and skirts because of constant looks and comments. I also had unpleasant incidents with harassment, with taking pictures of me and strange behavior towards me, as well as inappropriate words from strangers on the street. Men here for the most part do not consider women equal to themselves, both at work and just on the street or anywhere else, just like the women themselves sometimes.

It's one of the safest cities in Russia, in my opinion. When you are in the city centre, feel free to walk along and enjoy historical buildings and other sights. There are some regions where you shouldn't go at night because of week lightning, but they are all on the outskirts.
Posted: March 14, 2025I stayed at Kino Hostel. We took the separate room for 2p. I felt safe. From the centre it’s more dirty but overall I loved it. The museums are must have to go to! But you need hours to see all of the paintings! Prepare comfortable shoes!

Hi everyone 💓 My name is Liza, I’m 25 I’m here because I think that open world begins with an open mind. I like when people from different countries and cultures meet each other and get closer. In my every trip I’ve met kind and helpful people, so I really want to be one of them. For me it is very important to be respectful for each other and have an opportunity know more about other mentality, traditions, thoughts 💭 I live in SaintP at least 16 years, so I will happy to show this amazing city with a long history 🤍 So, nice to meet you, my dear stranger!

I’m Anna, I’ve been living in St. Petersburg for four years now. I study at St. Petersburg State University at the Law Faculty. I love traveling, but since I’m a student and don’t have much money I’ve been traveling to nearby cities in Russia or going on hiking trips with a backpack.
