Barcelos is a small city in the North of Portugal. Portugal is generally pretty safe, and I have never seen bizarre things happening in the city. Be ready to get catcalled tho as it is fairly common in Portugal and in small regions even more. People will also look at you up and down if you are not dressed "normally" (wtv that means). Since it's a small Catholic town, you can feel the judgement in their eyes but just ignore it because people are like this all the time. Don't take it personally! It's the patriarchal culture at its best.
