It’s quite safe if you stay away from sketchy places and sketchy people. Try to avoid/ be very careful around Kodulinna Lokaal at night because people have been drugged there before. Always better to be cautious but overall really safe.
Posted: August 14, 2025Tallinn is generally one of the safest places I've been to. There are definitely some regions to stay away from at night - like the train station or Lasnamäe, but even there I'd say the danger level is quite low

As a solo woman navigating Tallinn daily, I can genuinely say this city feels incredibly safe. Public transport is clean, well-lit, and free for residents but a tourist has to pay. Usually by the green card or Tallinn card but if you dont have neither, you can by by regular bank card or phone at the front reader of the bus. Walking alone at night? Done it countless times — no catcalls, no weird vibes, just peaceful streets (and sometimes a fox!). Crime rates are low, and street harassment is basically nonexistent. That said, like anywhere in the world, it’s smart to stay alert, especially in isolated or poorly lit areas. But overall? I’ve felt more seen and respected here than in many other European cities. 🌙 Pro tip: If you’re like me — curious, sensitive, independent — Tallinn gives you the space to explore without fear. Just trust your gut, stay aware, and enjoy the freedom 💫

I think not only Tartu is safe, but Estonia overall. As a woman I barely experienced male stares on me when passing by them. They can look at you, but quickly take their eyes away and minding their own bussines. I wasnt often alone at nights, so i cant really say hpw safe it is, but I didnt expirience any troubles. But near Old Town of Tartu Pirogovi park is located and people drink alcohol there, especially in the evenings and at nights, so I recommend stayaway from that place. Also be careful with the clubs.

In general its pretty safe in Estonia. Only night clubs and big festivals maybe sketchy but other than that I would not say its a problem. At least I have not experienced anything dangerous or felt unsafe in Estonia.

The medieval atmosphere in Tallinn is amazing. It has so many hidden spots and a vibrant nightlife. It is also very safe. The inner city is well-lit, and most people are quiet and calm. They keep to themselves and will not bother you with anything.
