Incredibly safe at most places even at night and for lonely people. The only places troubles may occur at are the farthest places from the city centre, tho even they are moderately safe. You can feel free to be yourself and out of judgement or harassment

Tartu is very safe, especially if you come to visit and stay in the center! The streets are usually full and well lit. You may sometimes be approached by people at night but it is quite rare and often friendly and well intentioned. The only inconvenient is that buses do not run at night but it is very easy and cheap to get a Bolt drive home.

Tartu is a small city in Estonia. Here lives mostly students and this city is known as a college city. Everyone is really sweet and friendly. I haven’t heard or seen of bad acts here in Tartu. Nobody should be worrying about safety here! Everything is alright 😇
Posted: February 18, 2025I have and know a lot of people who have walked home in the dark since they were 6 or 7 y.o. There may be a few areas to avoid during night but generally Tartu is safe and quiet. The city buses have caleras in there and feel very safe to, there is are great bus connection. Police is trustable and there are even some city parts where people don’t mind leaving their front door unlocked at all times
Posted: February 2, 2025Tartu is safe but maybe i scare sometimes too much. Very many people walking and living in Tartu. You can drive with cars, motorcycles, bikes, taxis and other transportation. I love Tartu but sometimes I can’t walk there alone because I am to scared.
Posted: January 24, 2025It's a very safe small place, where even small school children walk around or use the public transport alone. The only place that can feel slightly unsafe is the main square at weekends, since there is an alcohol shop. I have been walking alone there since I was 7 years old and never felt unsafe.
Posted: January 23, 2025All of the foreigners I’ve talked to say that it’s crazy how you can walk around whenever, including the night and nothing will happen and safety overall is one of the things people really appreciate about throughout the whole country. However, it would be safer to not randomly walk around in Annelinn at night.
Posted: December 29, 2024Tartu is very safe. I am a Muslim and even I never discriminated here. It's the safest city I have ever been. I never heard about robery, attacks, etc. The Police Border Guard Board said that the highest case is about drinking alcohol outside a building, yet I never seen someone drunk in this city.
Posted: December 24, 2024Estonia is overall a safe place to visit. The locals usually keep to themselves and mind their own business. I have never experienced any harm during day or night. Stealing is very rare. Tartu has a very nice cultural community with lots of events and gatherings.
Posted: December 23, 2024Very safe little town. Full of university students from end of august until late spring who are enjoying nightlife and beautiful Tartu vibe. Summers are beautiful and it's very nice to relax near the river where bars are open as well. Very calm and beautiful city where you can easily enjoy just being with yourself.
Posted: August 18, 2024Very safe and pleasant city, it’s clean and the old part of town is very pretty as well as some neigbourhoods. Loved the national museum and the many cute cafes.

Hey! I'm Kaisa. I like nature, good movies, tasty food, red wine and beer, and just enjoying life. I’m into exploring new places, meeting people (even though I’m a bit shy at first), and discovering cool spots—especially local markets or somewhere with a nice view. Also always down for a night out or a relaxed hang. Or lets go get tattoos! 😅
