I had a great time visiting the old town area. Lots of free museums and markets to check out and close to public transit. There was a lot of mexican souvenir shops and artisans, as well as niche shops including a mineral/gem store.
Posted: June 29, 2024The beaches, parks, San Diego Zoo, and art museum, were all incredible! So was Coronado Island, where we rented bikes to see the sights. Great, reasonably priced food is everywhere, as long as you know how to look. We used a rental car to get around town, and were able to drive around downtown during Comic Con. A truly incredible experience, so glad I got to spend it with my sister and father!

When I walk at night, I do feel safer when I’m with my large dog. My neighborhood (North Park) has a lot of homeless people, and they’re not always in their right minds. So it’s a little scary, even though I’ve never been attacked or heard of anyone getting attacked. People do steal packages that have been delivered.
Posted: July 12, 2024San Diego is very safe for travelers from all over the world. We do have a minor (relative to 3rd world countries) homeless problem so you may encounter some unsafe feeling characters if walking around alone at night, especially downtown, but they are generally harmless. Stay closer to the beach areas and you won’t experience this as much.

San Diego is a great place to visit as a solo female. It’s safe, great food and 99%of the time perfect weather. It’s the best best weather in the USA. I will give you lots of tips. It’s fun telling passengers flying into SD things to do. I have lived here for 7 yrs!
Posted: November 28, 2023This city is so much fun! The beaches are the best and we have the best Mexican food as well! So many things to do if you’ve never been! Everything from the San Diego Zoo to Belmont Amusement Park that is right next to the beach.
Posted: October 25, 2023I recommend the following: 1) Spend the entire day at Balboa Park, walking around its grounds, gardens, and visiting museums. Have lunch at Panama 66 or go to Cucina Urbana. 2) Head over to the Sunset Cliffs at sunset for a walk and drink a cocktail at Wonderland. 3) Visit the Azúcar bakery in Ocean Beach and try their guava and cheese products as well as Cuban coffee. Come early in the morning when the pastries are still warm! 4) If you’re there on a Saturday, start your morning in the Little Italy district and discover the local Mercato Farmers Market. There are numerous dining options there, and you'll be within walking distance of the bay, the USS Midway museum, Unconditional Surrender statue and so on. 5) My favourite beach is Coronado, but Pacific Beach and Mission Beach also have nice promenades and attractions. 6) For a true local culinary experience, eat an early lunch at Las Cuatro Milpas (the line starts forming around 10 am). Their tacos are out of this world. Nearby is also Chicano Park. Extraordinary Desserts (Union St location) is also worth visiting. 7) Try visiting La Jolla Cove and go hiking at Torrey Pines.

Dineke
Hi! I am Dineke and I loveee to travel and meet new people. In 2017 I quit my then job to travel the world and take a sabbatical. This took around 4 years (even during covid when I stayed in Portugal as this was the first country to go green in Europe back then). I have been to the south of Europe, starting in Paris, then off to Spain, Portugal and Italy before heading to Colombia. Here I did voluntary work at hostels to provide for room and board. After I went to the US and New Zealand, then Israel and finally 1 year in Portugal. Truly an adventure of a lifetime. However I also longed for some more solid ground under my feet and because of this I returned to my home country and got a steady position as a psychology teacher at university while also being the CEO of my own business Happiness First.
