How safe is Taiwan?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Taiwan is generally considered safe for solo female travelers even at night. Cities are well-lit, with busy streets full of locals and tourists. However, like anywhere else in the world, exercising standard precautions such as not venturing into less crowded or dimly lit areas at night is recommended.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Very safe

Taiwan's public transportation is known for its excellent safety and efficiency. From High-Speed Rail to the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit), buses, and taxis, all modes of public transport are reliable and widely used by locals and tourists alike. The stations and vehicles are clean and well-maintained, plus, most have security features like cameras and regular police presence. The signage and announcements in English also make it easy to navigate. Women traveling alone, even late at night, generally feel safe when using public transportation in Taiwan.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Very low

Taiwan is generally a safe country for solo female travelers. The locals are known for their politeness and respect towards others. Street harassment or catcalling is a rare occurrence, and it's highly unlikely that you will face any during your trip. Still, it’s always important to stay alert and cautious, as with any place you travel to.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Taiwan is a relatively safe country with low crime rates. Petty crimes such as theft or pickpocketing do occur, albeit infrequently, often in crowded places like markets or public transportation. However, local law enforcement is vigilant, and measures are often in place to deter such activities, therefore, the risk of encountering such situations remains low.

Taipei, Group travel

I travelled to Taiwan, Taipeh with my friends and had the best time ever! The food was the best I had in a long time and for the price it was too good to be true. I felt so safe in Taipeh and never had any issues with feeling uncomfortable. But also around Taipeh I was so impressed by the nature. I highly recommend going there!!

I felt really safe in Taipei, the weather was nice, and the food was delicious. I stayed at WoW Hostel in Ximending, it was cheap and the beds were good, with curtains and a lockers. It was sometimes a bit noisy but it is normal is this neither, I didn't mind. Staff was friendly too. Taipei is really great for museums and culture ! I loved it

It's very safe in Taiwan. As a backpacker who was in Southeast Asia, Taiwan is considered more expensive and is comparable to the cost one would incur in Singapore. As there are many delicious street food in Taiwan, it's good to make friends and have people to share the food together! Hostels in Taiwan are more expensive on the weekends as the locals are also traveling within their country. Good to book in advance if you're moving cities over the weekend.

Taiwan is a very safe country for female travellers. It was super simple to solo travel because the trains and bus make it easy to get around and people are helpful. I recommend visiting taipei, juifen, sun moon lake and hualien. The nature is beyond stunning here.

Taipei

I grew up in Taipei and knew it was recognized as an incredibly safe city. In fact, it is so secure that when I moved out of Taiwan and visited other places, I realize how much I took it for granted. Please do not worry and have so much fun🤍

Taiwan

I spent two weeks here. I didn’t feel unsafe at all, and mainly travelled to big cities and some smaller towns. At night I was more aware of my surroundings, but still nothing happened. The only time I felt scared was when I encountered some stray dogs on a hike from Jiufen to Houtong. Everything still went fine, and some locals helped me scare off the dogs. Overall public transportation is very safe and crime rates are very low.

That’s why I’m here, hoping to find a warm-hearted host who could offer me a couch or a safe place to sleep🫶🏻‼️ I’m super friendly, love meeting people from different cultures, and would be happy to share about Taiwanese food, language, or anything you’re curious about. I’d also love to hang out or cook together if we get the chance! Also—if you are a local or are planning to travel around Southern Europe during that time, I’d love to find a travel buddy too! Whether it’s just for a day trip or a few stops together, I’d be so happy to connect and explore with someone new😊 If you’d like to know more about me before meeting up, feel free to message me!🫶🏻 We can also become friends first—it would be lovely to get to know each other better before the trip💖 And if you ever come to Taiwan, I promise to show you around in the most local, fun, and authentic way! You’ll eat the best street food, explore hidden spots, and experience Taiwan like a true local! feel free to connect on my IG or Whatsapp: @ariellejian/ +886975015529

About me

Hi, I’m Jody from Taiwan🇹🇼! I often travel around the world. I love exploring natural landscapes, experiencing local cultures, and most importantly, making friends from all over the world!🫧 I recently started learning Japanese because I’ve met so many lovely Japanese people who made me fall in love with Japan, and I want to be able to communicate with them in Japanese. I also really enjoy photography, and in Taiwan, I sometimes take on travel photography gigs. If you like taking photos too, we can go shoot together! This June, I’ll be moving to the UK to start my studies there!

I have an intermediate level of English, but I need to keep practicing. I like cooking, looking after animals, creative/manual activities and I'm interested in flora and fauna, permaculture too. I've held several positions in Australia, South Africa and Malaysia, now it's time for me to live my best life (traveling around the world) and to meet, and share again and again 🤍 Let's talk and see when and how we can meet up or if it's possible for you to host me ✨ For all those who will host me, they will be welcome at my home in Paris or in a second place (which I haven't found yet).
