How safe is Taichung?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Taichung is known to be quite safe, even at night, for solo female travelers. The crime rate is low and the people are generally warm, welcoming, and always willing to help. However, as with any city, it's always prudent to keep your wits about you, stay in well-lit areas with people around, try not to flaunt expensive items, and avoid engaging with street-side vendors or unknown people after dark. Additionally, useful services such as reliable public transport can be accessed even late into the night.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Taichung is generally safe and reliable. Transportation modes such as city buses, intercity buses, and taxis are common and well-managed. There may be minor communication difficulties due to language barriers but most locals and operators are helpful. Late-night travel should preferably be done by taxis or trusted ride-hailing apps. Always be mindful of your belongings during peak hours.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Very low

Taichung is generally known for possessing a very safe and respectful street culture. You will rarely experience street harassment here as people tend to be respectful and mind their own business. Taiwanese culture values politeness and modesty, which might explain this lower occurrence of street harassment. Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Taichung, like most places in Taiwan, is generally considered safe and instances of petty crimes such as pickpocketing or bag snatching are rare. However, it is still worth being aware of your surroundings and taking basic precautions, particularly in crowded areas and at night. Nevertheless, the risk is relatively low compared to many other cities worldwide.

Is Taichung worth visiting?

Solo travel

The city doesn’t have much to do, but the university campus was nice. People were kind and helpful even if you don’t know the local language. The night market here is one of the best in this city. The weather is definitely better than in Taipei.

Is Taichung safe for women?

Taichung is a safe city. When you go to a coffee shop, you can just leave your bag or cell phone on your seat and just go to counter to order. If you leave your laptop on your seat and go to toilet, that is also fine. Basically you don’t need to worry about stolen or being robbed. The safety of this city is pretty good.

When I walk on the road alone at night, I've never had any experience that strangers talked to me or looked at me all the time, sometimes if you forgot to take your key on the scooter, when you finished shopping and go back to your scooter, the key was still there, people even helped you to put your key in the helmet or leave a note.
