The city doesn’t have much to do, but the university campus was nice. People were kind and helpful even if you don’t know the local language. The night market here is one of the best in this city. The weather is definitely better than in Taipei.

Taichung is generally very safe. walking around alone at night is safe. sometimes I see other people still exercising even at 10pm. but avoid parks in the evening as sometimes creeps can frequent parks.

Overall, it’s a super safe place (just like other cities in Taiwan). For example, you can leave your phone on the table while you go order food, or even forget your keys on your motorcycle without them being stolen 🤣 But compared to other cities in Taiwan, it’s still a little less safe because there are more homeless people around the railway station, and there are also more gang members than in other places.
Posted: May 22, 2025When I walk on the road alone at night, I've never had any experience that strangers talked to me or looked at me all the time, sometimes if you forgot to take your key on the scooter, when you finished shopping and go back to your scooter, the key was still there, people even helped you to put your key in the helmet or leave a note.
