Zermatt is renowned for its safety. The low crime rate along with a warm and friendly local population provides a safe environment for solo female travelers. Its well-organized public transportation and easy navigation further enhance safety. Emergency services are efficient and easy to access. Many tourist attractions are easily reachable on foot. The town is compact, making it easier for solo female travelers to explore.

Things to do:Fascinating

Zermatt is an absolutely fascinating place with a plethora of things to do. This picturesque mountain village is famous for its outdoor activities. In Zermatt, you will never run out of options! You can explore the stunning Matterhorn mountain, either by hiking or taking a cable car up to the peak. There are also opportunities for rock climbing, paragliding, and mountain biking for the more adventurous ones. On the other hand, if you are a lover of art and culture, you can visit the Matterhorn Museum to learn more about the history of the village and the iconic mountain. Nestled amidst breathtaking landscapes, Zermatt is also home to high-quality restaurants and unique boutiques adding a finishing touch to your Swiss experience. Zermatt boasts an impressive array of culinary options, offering much more than standard Swiss fare. The cuisine is diverse with Swiss, Italian, Japanese, and even Mexican choices available. High quality eating establishments cater to all types of dietary needs, including vegan and gluten-free options. Zermatt's gastronomic scene elevates it beyond the quintessential mountain food, although you shouldn't miss trying local specialties such as raclette and fondue. However, the cost can be on the high side, as it's a popular tourist destination.

Budget:Expensive

Zermatt can be a bit pricey for solo travelers, mainly because it is a top ski destination in Switzerland. The cost of accommodation, ski lift passes, restaurants, and activities like skiing or snowboarding can add up quickly. Is Zermatt worth visiting?

Solo travel experience

A beautiful small village with the great Matterhorn view 😍 car free, walkable distance, fresh air, amazing view, plenty of food options, lots of things to do. I went there by train (thanks to Swiss well connected transportation) and walk most of the time in the village.

Couple travel experience

We stayed at the Capricorn Hotel with a fantastic view of the Matterhorn. Be sure to visit Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, which was amazing. The town also has a small open-air museum with log huts. We took the gondola to Furi, then followed the trail, stopping by Ricola's Herb Garden and eating at the Bergrestaurant Blatten.
