Safety:Very safe

Lugano is generally very safe for solo female travelers. This city is renowned for its low crime rate and highly regarded local law enforcement. As always, common travel safety precautions are advised, but instances of violence are extremely low. Local and public transportation systems are reliable and secure even at night. The residents are known to be cordial and helpful.

Transport:Easy

Lugano is relatively simple to navigate, even as a solo female traveler. The city is compact, allowing easy placement of landmarks and most destinations within walking distance. Public transportation like buses and trains are widely available. They are reliable and highly efficient in getting around, especially for longer distances or going up steep hills. Bear in mind that signage is often in Italian. Locals are generally friendly and can communicate in English, ready to assist if needed.

Things to do:Interesting

Lugano is a thrilling destination for solo female travelers. The city offers a multitude of activities, from tranquil strolls along the lake to exciting exploratory hikes in the nearby mountains. Its Italian influenced architecture and cuisine make it a unique spot in Switzerland, and the multiple art galleries, museums and botanical gardens mean there's always something engaging at hand. Additionally, it's considered quite safe for solo travelers which adds to its appeal. While enjoyable year-round, keep in mind some attractions may be weather-dependent.

Food:Above average

Lugano offers an interesting blend of Italian and Swiss cuisines which are truly delectable. You'll find a range of pasta, pizza, frittatas and the famous Swiss cheeses. There is also a remarkable assortment of fondue and raclette, local wines, pastries, and Swiss chocolates. The diversity is commendable, with options to cater to varying taste preferences. Local gastronomy is a favourite here, along with some international options. Don't miss the farmers markets for fresh produce and local delicacies. Although the quality and taste of food seem to be consistently high, gourmet dining options are slightly less compared to larger cities, hence not the full rating.

Budget:Expensive

Lugano is a stunning place to visit, but it's known for being on the pricier side. Accommodation, dining, and entertainment can all be relatively expensive, especially compared to more budget-friendly destinations. However, if you're careful with your spending, seek out local deals, and avoid the tourist traps, it's certainly possible to make it slightly more affordable.

Local tips

Lugano is an amazing city and a must in Switzerland! The local language is Italian and hence the mentality is similar to the Italian one too! It is a safe city, also at night. The weather is great (sunny + quite warm). Local restaurants are amazing (Italian cuisine mostly).
