I visited Utrecht several times already. Alone, with friends, with my dog and without my dog. I have a small dog and she is easily stressed when too much is going on. Around the central station it's busy. But the mall there is amazing! You can shop there like a queen! 🛍️ You can also see the "parking garage" for the bicycles when you go there! Definitely worth a visit. 🚲 I am vegan so I sometimes have trouble finding something to eat, but Utrecht did great with food. Hot Pot at "Momofugu" can be vegan and it tastes amazing. Also when you are in the area of Utrecht you may take a walk...

I came into Utrecht after two days in Amsterdam. I really enjoyed the hustle and bustle of the bigger city but it was hard to feel like I belonged somewhere- as soon as I got into Utrecht- the smaller scale of the buildings and vibrancy of all the little cafes and stores drew me in. Although I am nearly 50, I joined in with a group of locals in their 20s for drinks and later we went dancing which was so much fun as it had been years since I’d done so. Everyone was warm and inviting. No bad vibes entire stay

We had gone to a card tournament with our group of friends, so we didn't have any other activities. There was a shopping mall in the center. There was a lot of food selection there. So, as an allergic person, it was possible for me to find some dishes. There are some gluten-free options available like, for example, at Vapiano.

Felt good! Only problem I had was a date that stood me up... Luckily it's a vibrant city. Small, but fun! I spent a lot of time in the central mall near the station, honestly not a bad decision. They have great food hubs!
Posted: February 27, 2024Experienced: January, 2024Utrecht is the kind of place Amsterdam would be if there weren't so many tourists - beautiful canals and harbor cellars, a vibrant nightlife, and Miffy's house. I felt very safe there when I went out in the city alone.

Most neighborhoods feel safe, just around central station (between the central station amd the neighbourhood Lombok) at night feels less safe. Overall the police is always very near and present in cases of emergency.

Never have been made to feel too unsafe here. I have been here just about every other day for years and years and could count the number of incidents on one hand. Ive ran around here in the day, in the night, whatever.

A green, happy, student city. The university predominantly specialising in social studies in the past has always led to a high average influx of women into the city that tend to stick around. This has created a safe space over the years.

Okay sure you'll need to have common sense not to wander in the little forest in the dark but even a little more urban is still pretty safe. At night please don't go to the end of the Vecht by the water (past Schaakbuurt or past Marnixlaan on the side where there are no houses) but use other roads just to be sure. Also don't wander around Overvecht or Kanaleneiland if you are not near the bigger streets if you don't really need to. It can feel scary but nothing actually happens.
Posted: October 1, 2025Seems fine during daylight but can be sketchy when you leave the centre; main problem is drunk homeless or drunk students who are disrespectful- you’ll find them in the centre as well but I don’t walk alone at night outside the main streets because of too many experiences of harassment

Hello! 🙋🏻♀️I I am a 25 year old Dutchy living in the most beautiful city of NL and (hot take) perhaps the world? Utrecht!🥰 I love to connect with people and I am always down for a good chat (and food!🙃)! As most people here I adore traveling! If you would ask me what I enjoy the most, it's the little interactions and conversations that I have along the way. Fun fact: I have been to Slovenian for eight years in a row 🙈 🇸🇮 What I enjoy? Going out of my introvert comfortzone, which creates interesting situations that I love looking back on. Random, spontaneous moments 😂 So hit me up when you are around, or convince me to spend money on traveling (very easy!) and I would love to meet up in person in your hometown (or anywhere else😊).💚

Heya I’m Lisanne and I will be travelling Hong Kong, China and Malaysia between 8 August and 22 September. I’d say that I’m an outgoing person who loves to meet new people and explore things. I don’t like to plan ahead too much and go with the flow. Travelling to me should be about meeting people and finding connections rather than ticking off the Lonely Planet list. That said. Ironically my profile photo is no. 1 on the Lonely Planet list for that country 🙃🫰
