Safety:Safe

Jordan has traditionally been one of the safer countries in the Middle East for solo female travelers. Its reputation for hospitality, combined with its stable political environment typically leads to a safe and welcoming setting for visitors. However, it's important to respect Jordan's conservative culture. Dress modestly, avoid isolated areas, specially at night, and always trust your intuition when interacting with people. While cases of serious crime against tourists are rare, incidents of harassment can occur, similar to many destinations around the world.

Transport:Moderate

Jordan allows for a moderate experience when it comes to traversing the country. It's not particularly complicated, with main cities like Amman, Petra, and Aqaba connected by an efficient road network. However, access to certain tourist attractions might be remote and require planning your own transport, as public transport in rural areas can be inconsistent. Navigating might require familiarity with Arabic as it's the predominant language on street signs and maps.

Things to do:Fascinating

Jordan offers a plethora of activities for the solo female traveler. History buffs will be drawn to the ancient city of Petra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nature enthusiasts can explore the diverse landscapes of Wadi Rum, often called 'The Valley of the Moon' for its otherworldly ambiance. Diving enthusiasts can plunge into the depths of the Red Sea at Aqaba, while those seeking relaxation can float in the mineral-rich waters of the Dead Sea. Safely navigating the landscapes and historical sites of Jordan is straightforward, thanks to welcoming locals and well-organised tourist infrastructure.

Food:Above average

Jordanian cuisine offers a variety of dishes that cater to different tastes, offering a rich blend of flavors and spices. Key dishes such as Mansaf and Falafel are a must-try, not to overlook the diversity of fresh and cooked vegetable options. Jordan is also popular for its Bedouin-style cooking which is a unique experience in itself. Desserts like Baklava and Kunafeh add to the sweetness of your journey. Availability of international cuisines caters to the need of all travelers as well.

Budget:Moderate

Jordan offers a good balance when it comes to cost-effectiveness. Basic necessities like food and accommodation are reasonably priced, however, high-end restaurants, luxury hotels, transportation, as well as entry fees to popular sites like Petra can significantly add to your expenses. Plan your itinerary ahead of time to keep costs within your budget.

Solo travel experience

I rented a car at the airport and drove all over Jordan for 10 days. I never felt in danger, the people were helpful and friendly. I loved Petra, spent a night in the desert, visited the ruins in Jerash, and saw amazing mosaics in Madaba.

Solo travel experience

I felt completely safe. I rented a car there and drove from Amman, to the Dead Sea, through Wadi Rum, all the way to Petra. It was an amazing trip.

Solo travel experience

I traveled alone in Jordan and despite dressing modestly, I was sexually harassed on three different occasions around Petra. Perhaps I was just unlucky, but I will never go back there alone, I will never feel safe there as a single woman again.

Solo travel experience

I traveled alone to Jordan in August. Jordan is one of my favorite countries to visit. I never felt unsafe there, and the Jordanians are very kind and helpful. I recommend dressing modestly, but they are not too strict about the dress code. I did encounter some interest from men, but I consider it harmless. I rented a car and traveled between Amman, Aqaba, Petra, and Wadi Rum.

I was in Jordan alone for 10 days, I rented a car and crossed the border into Israel in Aqaba. Jordan has very nice people. I visited Amman and Wadi Rum. I felt safe the whole time. My only advice is to dress modestly.

Solo travel experience

I traveled alone to Jordan last year, which was one of my favorite places. I went on a trip to Wadi Rum, Petra, and the Dead Sea, where I met many other solo female travelers. I felt safe, and people were extremely friendly. I also spent a few days in Irbid and crossed the border into Jerusalem.

Group travel experience

I felt safe in Jordan. I was on a tour, but the guide told us that they don't observe Islamic law there, but one where women have legally guaranteed rights. The only thing I didn't like was that in Amman, one child followed me for half a block, saying "give me money."

Group travel experience

Jordan is safe, and the people are friendly. I explored Petra for one intense day and managed to see most places. Wadi Rum is wonderful. I definitely spent too little time there. It is great to observe this place at different times of the day - from sunrise to sunset. The colors are amazing. I recommend staying with the Bedouins and going on a safari. As for transportation, there were four of us and we rented a car.

Solo travel experience

I spent a few days alone in Jordan and a few days sharing a car with other people, as public transport is not very regular. I felt safe, but you have to be aware of scammers in Petra. I was in Petra for 3 days and it was definitely too much. I think one intensive day would be enough. I spent one day in Wadi Rum, sleeping under the stars, and it was the most wonderful.

Local tips

I live in Jordan, which is absolutely safe for a solo traveling woman and has a lot to see: - Petra, one of the seven wonders of the world - The Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth with a breathtaking view of the West (Palestine/Israel) and the sunset - Wadi Rum, a place similar to the Grand Canyon with red sand - Madaba, a place known for its historical mosaics, with a 1000-year-old church built to house the world's oldest mosaic map - Mount Nebo, where Moses was, and according to legend, is buried somewhere there - Jerash, a Roman city with 1000 pillars, one of Decapolis - Um Qais, another city in Decapolis, built of black stones, which in Roman times was a university and at the same time, it offers a view of the Golan Heights, from where on a clear day you can see parts of Lebanon, Syria, and of course, the Sea of Galilee - The baptismal site, where Jesus Christ was baptized
