Did a 14 days solo trip in Jordan without following any tour and everything went well. I did travel in local bus, hitchhike and took taxi when there were no other solutions. I did two couchsurfings and stay at hostels too. I also went out during night time in Amman and Aqaba. I just disliked the Bedouin in Petra historical old town only but the local Petra people don't like their behaviour too. For the clothes I didn't wear reveling ones and tried to respect the local as much as I could and they were super welcoming. I didn't wear any scarf.
I backpacked around Jordan and I was absolutely fine. From the impression of being there , it didn't feel like a strict Muslim country. I just dressed a lot more conservatively than I would usually do in Europe. Overall the people we really friendly. A little bit of harassment, but no worse than Italy and France.
I did Jerash, Salt, Amman, dead sea, Ma'in hot spring, madaba, Kerak, wadi musa, Wadi rum, Aqaba. Regarding accommodation, I stayed in Petra Nights hotel and it was great. It was clean, people spoke English and they have a hammam. For Wadi Rum we booked with wadi rum quiet village a jeep day & overnight and it was also great. I strongly recommend renting a car. Its easy to drive there (outside of Amman).
My solo trip to Jordan was amazing! I stayed at Nomads Hostel in Amman and Petra and found other solo travelers to travel with the rest of my trip. There are a ton of couples in Jordan though! I stayed in a very homey hostel in Aqaba which I loved because they were so sweet and cooked a great breakfast, Hakaia Home Hostel. We did the Dead Sea for free at a local beach after we were done with Wadi Musa, a really cool canyon outside of Amman.
I live in Jordan it is absolutely safe for a solo female traveller and much to see: - Petra one of the world 7 wonders - dead sea, the lowest point on earth with a breath taking view looking at West (Palestine/Israel) and watch the sunset - wadi rum, a place similar to grand canyon with red sands - madaba, a place known for historic mosaic pieces, with a 1000 years old church built to host the world eldest mosaic map - mount Nebo where Moses was and legend says that he was burried somewhere in the mount - jerash, the Roman city with 1000 pillars, one of the Decapolis - um qais also another Decapolis city built with black stones, hosted a university during the Roman empire, and at the same time it over looks Golan heights, where on a good day u can see parts of Lebanon, Syria and of course Tiberian lake - baptism site, where Jesus Christ was baptized
Definitely recommend renting a car! I went to the Dead Sea, Petra, wadi rum and Amman! One of my favorite places I’ve been!
