Rural areas may rely more on personal vehicles but most of the key tourist sites are easily accessible. Be aware that understanding the local schedule and language can be a bit challenging. Overall, Tuscany offers a mix of sensory-rich experiences and picturesque landscapes that are worth the travel time.

Group travel experience

I cycled from Florence to Pisa with Intrepid in September 2023 and it was a great trip. I loved visiting the small towns in Tuscany - the food was some of the best I had in Italy. The people in the smaller towns were lovely - a lot more welcoming than in the bigger cities. While some of the hills were challenging, the support van was helpful. I would recommend doing this tour whole heartedly. I felt very safe and comfortable no matter where we were and no matter the time of day. It was under CAD3,000 thanks to a sale and you could pay for some extra excursions. Some of the accommodation wasn’t the best but it was passable.
