Guiyang, being a capital city of Guizhou Province, China, is generally safe for solo female travelers. It has a low crime rate and locals are often welcoming and helpful. As in any international city, the usual precautions should be taken like avoiding remote areas late at night, keeping close tabs on personal belongings in crowded places, and not sharing your accommodation details publicly. But overall, the city is considered safe and friendly, with good infrastructure in place.

Guiyang itself is a walkable city, but the public transportation can be confusing for a non-native, especially to those who don’t speak Chinese. Some of the top sights are scattered and you might need to rely on taxis or rideshares. Although locals are friendly and willing to help, language can be a barrier. However, with a little patience and good planning, you can navigate the city quite well.

Couple travel experience

Went with my bf, it’s actually a very safe place. I fell in love with their food, namely suantangyu which is a sour soup hotpot with fresh fish inside. The sourness comes from the fermented local tomatoes they use. It’s wonderful! It’s a very affordable place, with nature beauty as well!
