Joshua Tree National Park, located in southeastern California, is a vast protected area characterized by rugged rock formations and stark desert landscapes. Renowned for its uniquely twisted, bristled Joshua Trees, the park straddles the cactus-dotted Colorado Desert and the cooler, moister Mojave Desert. Visitors to the park can experience a surreal geological spectacle, with spectacular patterns in the rocks formed by millions of years of erosion, an array of wildlife from golden eagles to desert tortoises, and brilliant night skies that offer an unparalleled view of the stars. Joshua Tree National Park

Large national park with a cute town outside of it. You could make several day trips through the park and hike with different views if you want. We only had one full hiking day. We stayed at a renovated motel and had access to great food including vegetarian options. This was the most amazing dark sky area I have been to for stargazing.
